Two terrific takes on WordFest up at Berkshire Fine Arts: First Annual Event in Lenox by Astrid Hiemer and Conjuring the Spirit of Edith Wharton by Charles Giuliano. Thank you, Astrid and Charles!

Postscript on WordFest by Roberta Silman on The Arts Fuse, rightly emphasizing the extraordinary “generosity of spirit” that pervaded the event.

WordFest picked up by the London Free Press in an interesting travel piece on the Berkshires: “Soon to be added to the artistic package that is the Berkshires is a focus on writing as The Mount, onetime home of author Edith Wharton in Lenox, organizes its first of what is hoped to be an annual literary festival. Berkshire Wordfest was held July 23-25 and is the area’s only summertime literary event.”

Beautiful reflections by Kate Abbott, editor of Berkshires Week: “Walking the house and grounds this weekend at Berkshire WordFest, I felt myself enlarged. The global community of writers had stretched itself here and let me touch it like a live wire. Every talk gave me ideas to play with.” (Check out both her column, Roundtable, and related story, A Generous Fertility: Berkshire WordFest.)

Fabulous preview by Berkshire Living’s literary maven, Lesley Ann Beck, who will be liveblogging the festival all weekend. (Thank you, Lesley!) She writes: “It’s time to add a top-notch literary festival to the other excellent cultural offering in the Berkshires, and holding it at the home of Edith Wharton, the first woman to win the Pulitzer for fiction, makes perfect sense.” Our sentiments exactly.

Interview with Robinhood Radio’s Marshall Miles. Listen here or tune into WHDD 91.1 FM in and around Sharon, CT for a rebroadcast.

July 16

Lovely post by Roberta Silman on The Arts Fuse about WordFest and The Mount. She writes: “With the establishment of Wordfest, a celebration of writing in America with talks, interviews, panels and book signings, The Mount seems to be coming into its own in ways that make it more alive than ever before.” We agree!

July 14

Cover story by Kelly Bevan in the Advocate, quoting Elizabeth Brundage and Jim Shepard, who has this to say about the value of literary festivals: “Having festivals like this anywhere in the country is a good idea. As the general culture gets less focused on literature and literary matters in general, I think it’s always nice to provide [this] kind of space.”
